Paint FAQ

Is Fine Paints of Europe worth the price for a contractor?
For the right jobs, yes — and it usually pays for itself. Fine Paints of Europe covers better (higher solids content means fewer gallons used), flows and levels exceptionally, and lasts significantly longer than standard paint. On high-end residential, custom homes, or any job where the client notices the finish quality, it's the right call. It also reduces your callbacks. For budget multi-family or commercial, standard lines make more sense — we carry both.
What primer should I use on new drywall?
PVA (polyvinyl acetate) drywall primer is the standard for new construction — it seals the drywall paper and joint compound to give you a uniform surface. Without it, the compound absorbs paint differently than the paper face and you get "flashing" — visible dull spots even after 2 coats. One coat of PVA, let it dry, then your finish coats. If you're using Fine Paints of Europe, we carry their proprietary acrylic primer which pairs perfectly with their finish lines.
What sheen should I use for bathrooms and kitchens?
Satin or semi-gloss for moisture-prone rooms. Satin gives a slightly softer look and is still washable — good for bathroom walls where you want something that's easy to clean but doesn't feel overly shiny. Semi-gloss is more moisture-resistant and more durable — better for direct splash areas, around sinks, or anywhere that takes frequent scrubbing. Flat and matte should not go in kitchens or bathrooms.
Do you sell 5-gallon contractor packs?
Yes — 5-gallon pails are available on most of our standard interior and exterior lines and are the most cost-effective option for large jobs. Fine Paints of Europe is sold in quarts and gallons. For bulk orders or job-site pricing on multiple buckets, call us at (281) 741-3588 and we'll work out contractor rates.
Can you tint paint to a custom color?
Yes — we tint to customer-specified colors. For most standard lines, bring in a chip or specify a color number and we'll match it. Fine Paints of Europe has their own proprietary color system; bring the color reference and we'll work with you. Deep or saturated colors may require a tinted base rather than white base for best coverage — we'll advise when you order.
